| We received this toy box as a gift for our son when he was 1. I love the fact that it also has the book shelf and top shelf as well as the door feature to "hide" the toys. When our son was younger we would pick up his toys and close up playtime for the day - he knew it was almost bedtime when we would put the lid down. The book shelf has not held books yet as they pull them right down but we do store some of the more played with stuffed animals on these shelves. They sit in perfectly and are easy to find for our children. The opening for the toy box is low enough for our toddlers to get their own toys in and out. We have had this toybox for almost 2 years now and it still looks brand new. It has only been inside and the color has not faded. My 2 & 3 yr old have climb onto, banged into, thrown toys at, and much more and shows no wear & tear. A little bit pricier than the regular toy box but worth it for the extra features of shelves and closing lid that does not shut unless pulled shut by someone. No pinched fingers or trapping with this one! Another great buy/product from Step2 |
Well designed

| I love our Lift & Hide Bookcase Toy Chest. We recently bought this for our 8 month old son, who is crawling and pulling himself up on anything he can hold on to. I leave the door lifted open and he can literally reach inside to grab at his toys. It's durable construction means that we don't have to worry about him pulling it down on top of himself or banging into any sharp corners. All edges are rounded and smooth. My favorite feature is the bookcase. We wanted to be able to keep the books separate from the toys so that they could be accessed more quickly. I would highly recommend this toy chest and think that it is well worth the money. I know it will last a very long time. |

I BOUGHT THIS FOR MY 2 1/2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER LAST YEAR IT IS DURABLE, HUGE STORAGE SPACE, SAFE CORNERS AND LID. THE CHILDREN CAN LIFT THE LID THEMSELVES WITH EASE, BUT IF YOUR LOOKING TO KEEP THE BOOKS ON THE SHELF AT THIS AGE DON'T COUNT ON IT, I ONLY HAVE ONE SAFETY PRECAUTION AT THE AGE OF 1 TO 2 BE CAUTIOUS YOUR CHILD DOES NOT SIT ON THE EDGE. MY DAUGHTER HAS FELL IN BACKWARDS MORE TIMES THAN I CAN COUNT!(NEVER SERIOUSLY HURT, BUT FRIGHTENED) THANK GOD SHE'S TOO BIG TO FALL IN NOW BUT SHE DOES CLIMB IN WITH ALL THE TOYS AND HAS A BLAST JUST SITTING IN THEIR WATCHING TV AND THE LID CAN NOT CLOSE ON HER. EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR A TOY BOX,AND BOOK SHELF WHEN OLDER. |
Perfect!!

I wanted a nice large toychest for my 21 month old sons, but didnt want something "dangerous". At TRU I thought I would just pick the biggest and cutest, but I first did my research and found many hazards with toddlers and toy chests! This one is completely safe and very very durable
I bought this chest because its a cute tan with a red lid (or a pink lid) and it fits wonderfully in my twin boys room. The chest has 2 shelves for books or for displaying toys. The chest is super easy for me or my husband to move, yet not so for my little terrors! The lid can withstand alot of jumping, yet its on a slant so the boys cant really jump off it. It wipes up very easily if something gets on it because its that tough, durable plastic.
Once the chest was used we found it stored all of their "bedroom" toys easily, and we kept some books on the middle shelf and some special loveys and displayed Elmos on the top. The lid folds back so it wont fall down if a little one is litterally digging IN the chest for a toy, the only time it will close is if it is done intentionally. There is also a nice 1 1/2 gap from lid to toybox where my sons fingers wont get jammed if it is closed down. I said before that this toy LOOKED durable enough for jumping on, but it can also handle wrestling, kicking, and "aim practice". My sons also enjoy hiding in it and just sitting down and having the other one cover them with toys.
But this chest (along with probably every other toychest) tought my sons responsibility, cooaperation, and cleaning. They know that if they want to be able to play with a toy, its their responsibility to put it back so they dont loose it or break it. They also now cooperativly take out different toys, help eachother find one in the bottom, and even play the pile up game inside of it (and all mothers of twins know cooperation is a MUST). They also learned that they have to clean up when they are done because then they will be able to dig through the toybox another day, and they actually love seeing how many toys they can carry to the box in one trip!
So at first I thought a toy chest was a toy chest and nothing more, but its also a learning tool, and could possibly be a saftey hazzard! This lift and hide toy box really is the best on the market, and I may buy another one for the family room!

I previously purchased the pink top version of this product when my daughter was 4 yrs old. Now she is 14 and it is in mint condition, with the exception of a few surface scratches. This has proven very durable, toys were easily accessible, and safe. I am purchasing the red top for my two toddlers to color coordinate with their room and will use the pink one in another part of the house.
I definitely recommend this product to anyone who wants a toy chest that promotes organizational skill development and one that will last! |
